10:30 – 11:00 Introduction to the Team Exercise

Over and over, the interviews stressed the importance of data and need for a strong fact base – many are struggling to find good data measurement tools, evidence that isn’t just anecdotal.  Several mentioned the need for good training models, and especially training for local facilities people, in how to implement change management, flexible officing, etc.   Four teams will tackle four challenges and present results on Tuesday afternoon.

  • Team 1: Create a toolkit for collecting data of user behaviors (where, how and when they work, including occupancy rates), work performance for evaluating the results. Be as specific as possible with loads of examples (URLs, screen shots, prototypes, work behavior profiles, benchmark studies, etc.)
  • Team 2: Create a template for making a business case to leadership for new ways of working. The template could include: the business imperative (costs/benefits), governance organization/integration or coordination of IT, HR and CRE aspects, assessment of existing situation as compared to best in class, the process and schedule, potential hurdles and likely solutions, best practices, phases, and costs and schedule estimate, and compelling arguments for getting the leadership to lead from the front.
  • Team 3: Make a new ways of working planning and implementation toolkit for your facility folks. Provide them with a step-by- step implementation guide to help them apply new workplace concepts/new ways of working—starting with vision/objectives, to needs assessment, to optional solutions, to implementation, to evaluation of performance. Be as specific as possible with loads of examples (URLs, screen shots, reference materials – articles, books, etc.)
  • Team 4: Make a new ways of working information toolkit for new users to consider, assess, adapt and transition to new ways of working.  Provide them with the rationale, the costs and benefits, steps, assessment of readiness, optional solutions, examples of other implementations.

Group presentations must be electronic. The goal is to make something really useful that everyone at the symposium can take home and use right away.  Please make sure to provide a copy for posting to website.
