A study reported in the latest Harvard Business Review says that the oldest workers (Boomers - born from 1946 through 1964) and the youngest (Generation Y - born 1979 through 1994) demand many of the same things in a workplace.
The authors, Sylvia Ann Hewlett, Laura Sherbin and Karen Sumberg from the Center for Work-Life Policy, say that the two “bookend generations" share many attitudes and behaviors that set them apart from other generations. They found that “flexible work arrangements and the opportunity to give back to society trump the sheer size of the pay package. That was true before the downturn hit and remains so even as its full brunt is being felt.”
