Researchers from the University of Minnesota found proof that the Results-Only Work Environment (ROWE) at Minnesota-based Best Buy made a significant dent in employee absenteeism and turnover.
ROWE elements include a change in the focus for employees and managers towards measurable results and away from a set work schedule and location. Employees may change when and where they worked without seeking permission from a manager or even notifying one.
Writing in the journal, Social Problems, researchers Phyllis Moen, Erin Kelly and Rachelle Hill, described their research approach and study findings. They found that ROWE alters actual turnover behavior, as well as turnover intentions.
