September 2007 Tertulia: HP Halo System

Categories:

Nineteen members of the New Ways of Working Network “met” with six members of HP’s Halo Research Group for the largest and certainly most distributed Tertulia ever. Thanks to the efforts of Brad Allen of the Halo Group, the Tertulia convened using the HP Halo Collaboration Studio with groups in Palo Alto, Chicago, Corvallis, and Bristol, UK.

All the HP Halo rooms are intentionally designed similarly so that you get the impression that you are in the same “room.” In Palo Alto, we were seated on one side of a slightly curved table and the others appeared in very large high-definition “windows” on the opposite wall on their other side of an identical table. The Bristol, Chicago and Corvallis teams appeared in the lower three windows, while the upper fourth window displayed inputs from computers or objects captured by cameras above each of the conference tables. After the initial shock of the clarity and fidelity of the virtual meeting room, we immediately got into introductions, without the usual fuss with video and voice connections.
