Gap adopts ROWE strategy
Gap Outlet, a division of the American retail giant Gap Inc., has just completed a pilot of a Results-Only Work Environment (ROWE) strategy. Under a ROWE strategy, employees can work whenever and wherever they want as long as they get the work done. ROWE was pioneered by Best Buy six years ago. Gap's pilot was initiated at company headquarters in San Francisco last year. Key reasons for the ROWE test were the company's desire to improve worklife balance and reduce turnover. Gap reports the following pilot results: 21% increase in productivity, 18% drop in employee turnover and a 19-point increase in engagement scores.
