Guide to carbon accounting
Hal Levin alerted us to this special report from BusinessWeek: "A CEO Guide to Carbon Accounting." Many organizations are "in denial" about the need to manage carbon, reports Rachel King. For example, a Gartner worldwide survey conducted in December 2008 that found that only 18.8% of companies surveyed had implemented carbon reporting and management systems and 64.7% had not. Oddly, 13.6% weren't sure what they were doing. Companies continue to struggle to find ways to track and manage energy use. Many employ "rudimentary homegrown methods." In fact, about 90% of organizations use spreadsheets, according to Groom Energy Solutions, a company that specializes in energy-efficiency technology.
