Study: Social media leaders & laggards
A 2010 study by Babson College found that Social Media Customer Leaders perform better in the marketplace. According to H. James Wilson, Senior Researcher and Senior Writer at Babson Executive Education, "tweeting is both common and encouraged among a select group of companies we call Social Media Customer (SMC) Leaders." In fact, only 21% of SMC Leader companies reported stagnant or declining sales over the past year compared to 31% of SMC Laggard companies. Details: http://www.newwow.net/members/node/1652

Survey: How Global Fortune 100 companies use social media
PR firm Burson-Marsteller recently released a survey of the ways Global Fortune 100 companies are using social media. Researchers looked at four media platforms--Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and corporate blogs--and found that the top firms worldwide are active in the social media sphere. They also compared how social media behaviors differ among geographic regions. Worldwide, four out of five companies use at least one of the most popular social media platforms to engage with stakeholders. Twitter ranks first then Facebook, YouTube and corporate blogs. Continuing the conversation – occupancy levels
If Price comments on a post from Doug Lowrie about a target for square footage per head. If is thinking about 7 SqM but adds that he's heard that "20 is still considered good in the US and 18 in the Netherlands." Join in the conversation: http://www.newwow.net/members/node/1624#comment-1068

Your office chair is hazardous to your health
BusinessWeek ran an alarming story recently. Entitled “Your Office Chair Is Killing You,” the piece cited new research concluding that "Sitting is a public-health risk. And exercising doesn't offset it." TV addicts and those who sit at a computer for hours show higher rates of obesity, hypertension, high blood triglycerides, low HDL cholesterol, and high blood sugar. If you must sit, the article recommends "perching" in a half-sitting, half-standing position at barstool height. The article also recommends a couple of acceptable seats. Follow-up to telework/blizzard coverage
Inspector General David Berry from the US National Labor Relations Board released the results of a survey to determine the level of work that occurred during the Government closure caused by major snowstorms this past winter. The survey also identified what worked well and included suggestions for improvement. Of those surveyed (88% of the headquarters staff), 66% have a government-issued laptop and 36% of those took them home before the storm. Of the employees who did not take their laptops home prior to the snow closings, 42% said that they would be more inclined to do so next time. http://www.newwow.net/members/node/615#comment-1069
