Conversation starter: Are US workers more pressured to remain connected to work than workers in other countries?
Nearly a third of U.S. workers who use technology in their jobs reported the need to maintain a link to their employer at all times, according to a recent survey by InterCall. Almost half said they are now required to do more work with fewer resources due to the current economic climate. A quarter of those surveyed fear that if they disconnect from work during time off, they may be seen as less committed to their jobs. Colleague Nancy Settle-Murphy noted that the survey was conducted by a web conferencing company. "I wonder if they asked whether people saw their company-provided electronic devices as a detriment to their work/life balance?" she asks. Nancy also wondered if the study might have different results if it had been conducted globally? Nancy would like to hear from other members, and especially those from different countries.
