Americans under 30 are "confident, self-expressive, liberal, upbeat and open to change,” according to “Millennials: A Portrait of Generation Next,” a new report from the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press.
Millennials, 18-to-29-year-olds, are history’s first “always connected” generation. “Steeped in digital technology and social media, they treat their multi-tasking hand-held gadgets almost like a body part – for better and worse.” More than eight-in-ten sleep with a cell phone next to their bed.
Currently, 37% of millennials are unemployed or out of the workforce. This is the highest share among this age group in more than three decades. Forty percent of them were enrolled in college as of 2008, according to U.S. census data.
