Network analysis helps improve organizational efficiency

A recent article in the MITSloan Management Review described research by a team from the University of Virginia who looked into how employee networks can impact costs, efficiency and innovation. The team looked at IT organizations across a range of organizations in a variety of industries. Their guiding question was to learn how companies could build more collaborative and innovative organizations.

Key findings:

  • Management should analyze employee collaboration networks to learn how high-performing individuals and teams connect in their organization.
  • Networks should be designed to optimize the flow of communication across function, distance and technical specialty.
