Davenport: A strategic approach to rethinking knowledge work

Renate Fruchter sent us a link to a recent McKinsey Quarterly report on rethinking knowledge work. In it, Thomas Davenport maintains that knowledge workers have varying information needs and the key to better productivity is applying technology more precisely. Here’s a summary of some of his main points:

“After researching the productivity of knowledge workers for years, I’ve concluded that organizations need a radically different approach,” Davenport writes. He suggests it is time for companies to develop a strategy for knowledge work, one that examines work on a much more granular level.
